November: Gratitude Beyond November

Gratitude Never Goes Out of Style

November is a yearly reminder to be thankful for our blessings by expressing thanks to those around us. While November kicks off the season of giving, gratitude is not only a one-month challenge; it should be something we implement all-year long.

This month, Empowered Nonprofits shares how nonprofits can weave the practice of gratitude into the three pillars of their work:

1. Team
2. Board
2. Development Plan

Let's get started!

GRATITUDE FOR YOUR TEAM

Build trust with your team. When you have trust, you can accomplish anything! Advocate for your team and create a safe space where your team can feel comfortable.

Offer growth opportunities. It is important to be aware of your team's personal goals and offer professional development opportunities that can nurture their ambitions.

Annual performance reviews. Schedule a set date and time to meet individually with your team to discuss performance and acknowledge their work.

Gifts. Whether it is a big end of year gift or small tokens of appreciation throughout the year, gifts are a great way to show you care about your team beyond the 9 to 5.

Lead by example. Emulate a culture built on gratitude by thanking your staff often and showing appreciation for the work.

GRATITUDE FOR YOUR BOARD

Wine & Dine. Spend time outside of the board room for a nice get together to shmooze and enjoy each other's company. This helps build stronger and more positive relationships.

Thank You Note. Take the time to write a personal note to each board member, thanking them for serving and acknowledging their efforts. Be sure to include a personal anecdote!

Public Recognition. Whether it's on the organization's website, formal letterhead, or social media, it is important to list and recognize your board members.
